About Us
The As 2 Become 3 project is a multi-faceted programme which offers first-time parents vital support at a crucial point of transition in their lives.
Based on extensive research, the project aims to provide the information and support that a couple needs at this time through a number of means including:
- a 8-topic one-day course
- short workshops run through antenatal classes
- individual sessions for specific couples
- follow-up work with couples
- literature providing information to various audiences
- education through the media
- influencing others for change
This project focuses on the pregnant couple's relationship
and offers proactive support to help couples deal with the transition from two, to a family of three (or more!). Research has found that this is a major transition point, and if a first-time expectant couple is unaware and unprepared for the huge psychological, emotional and day-to-day changes that each of them is going to face, then the chance of family breakdown in the following years is high.
Having run for some time in the West London area, the response to the As 2 Become 3 project has been very positive in the community and has generated a great deal of wider interest. The project works with local GP surgeries, health professionals and maternity hospitals in running complementary sessions with their own antenatal courses as well as directing people towards the one-day course. This project has been enthusiastically welcomed by health professionals who see it as a much-needed complement to antenatal and NCT classes, as it uniquely seeks to strengthen couple and family relationships.
